Meet Mrs. Herrada

My name is Andrea Herrada and I am a 31 year old elementary educator. I grew up and currently reside in a small town called Plant City in Florida. (Such a small town that the biggest event everyone looks forward to each year is a local festival called the Strawberry Festival-- our farm town is known for strawberries!

I am Latina/Hispanic, born a daughter of a Puerto Rican mother and a Mexican father.

I didn't always plan on becoming a teacher but I did know I wanted to work with children in some capacity. After initially completing my first semester at my local community college, I switched my Associates degree major from Social Worker to Teacher Preparation. I graduated with my Associates of Arts in May of 2014.

***Flashback to July 2008 (my highschool freshman summer) this is when I met my amazing high school sweetheart, now husband, Oscar Herrada. We dated from 2008 until 2014 when we became engaged. We had our first daughter, Zayda Marie, on July 16, 2015 and tied the knot on May 9, 2016.***

I continued my college education at Western Governor's University (go Night Owls!) to receive my Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education. I began my "Junior" year of college in 2016 (while pregnant) and FINALLY completed my degree by December 2019 (while pregnant, again).

We welcomed our second daughter, Azula Xaeli, on January 12, 2020.

We welcome our third daughter, Yezlanna Xiqira, on September 10, 2022.

I am the epitome of #teachermama and it is VERY exhausting.

I am currently back at Western Governor's University completing my Master's degree in Elementary Mathematics. Although my heart is in the classroom with my students, I would like to use the mathematical expertise I gain from my continued education to assist in curriculum development and eventually move into post-secondary education.

I will still focus on supporting families and students through educatinglittleminds via private tutoring and my resources.

I currently am taking a personal leave of absence from the classroom while I work from home as an Admissions Coordinator for a post-secondary midwifery school (who I networked into via the midwife who owned the practice that helped with my last pregnancy) while I complete my educational endeavors and some mommy time. When I return, I will be a 5th year, 4th grade teacher at the IB magnet school I have spent three years at.

I am a passionate foodie, creator, and traveler. My family inspires me daily to be a better educator each day. My students drive my passion to contiue to grow and learn. Each group of students I have taught has taught me something new and has created a long-lasting impact in my heart.
