In 2018, "educating little minds" was born. How?
My husband, Oscar Herrada, set out to fulfill a goal to write and illustrate a children's book to dedicate to our preschool daughter (at the time) Zayda called, "More than the Color Yellow".
He decided to create a STEM, non-fiction, primary book that teaches children about the Sun and aimed to provide essential knowledge to young readers in the classroom or at home on how the shining circle in the sky is more than the yellow light we see.
The book goes over the benefits we enjoy from having our Sun and the forms of light it radiates to our planet into 3 sections: Visible Light, Energy, and Heat. The illustrations for each page were developed to represent each aspect described with a "literal" approach to the words being read. Sections are then closed with a "what if" scenario to give the reader an open-ended question opportunity to discuss what was learned in each chapter aiming to make retention of the material the goal of the book.
"Imagine if everything was only one color?"
Through this book, my husband and I decided to collaboratively build a platform to create and share resources with the community: resources, books and tips. That came at little to no cost so that it could be affordable to many. The goal is that quality educational content and resources should not come with a hefty price tag. As we continue to slowly grow and develop, we hope to continue to give back to our community through education.
